Gabriela Cach
External Vice President, Junior Chemical Engineering Major
Hi! My name is Gabriela, but I prefer to be called Gaby. I'm from Los Angeles,CA. In my spare time I dance Hip-Hop, dish out sass and enjoy running. My aspiration in life is to inspire others, especially those from my Latino community, to pursue a higher education. I believe in service through education, which is why I am majoring in chemical engineering. I intend to give back to my community as well as rural communities in developing countries with my degree.

Steffen Holm
Webmaster and PR, Junior Electrical and Computer Engineer
I was born in a tiny peublo in Spain and moved to America when I was three, all but forgetting my native language of Spanish. Instead, growing up in San Diego, I learned the language of the grom. Gnarly carne asada fries are my passion but I also enjoy club water polo, and am in SAE. I hope to one day work on advancing Artificial Intelligence systems so that they can benefit humanity but mostly do my homework for me. SHPE has been a great resource in helping me develop professionally - securing company contacts and even a software engineering internship at Qualcomm last summer.

Bernardo Campus
Community Service Chair, Senior Mechanical Engineer
I grew up in San Luis Potosi, Mexico and moved to upstate New York at the age of 12. There was an almost non-existent Hispanic community where I went to high school, so finding out about SHPE when I came to Carnegie Mellon was amazing to me. What’s really cool to me about SHPE is that it is a group of people with whom I share something similar. It is a very welcoming group of people that has helped me with ant concerns relating job searching, networking, and my courseload.
I am also working to complete minors in both Business Administration and Music Technology. Outside of SHPE I’ve been involved in Greek Life, Varsity Athletics, and run my own DJing business. Some of my favorite things to do are playing volleyball, watching Formula 1, finding new music, and trying out new restaurants.

Yulissa Cruz
Conference Chair, Sophomore
Hi, my name is Yulissa Cruz. I am a Sophomore majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a double major in EPP. I was born in the Dominican Republic, but moved to New York City at a young age. Like any other good New Yorker, I appreciate the beauty in bagels and coffee every morning and a good and fresh slice of pizza. Moving to Pittsburgh finding good pizza or coffee wasn’t an issue, but finding people who shared the same background and values as me was definitely one. Although the CMU community is very diverse, I really enjoy connecting with my heritage through our SHPE meetings whether it is by enjoying Chipotle’s amazing burritos and guac or playing some of our favorite Latino songs including the all-time favorite “El Sonidito” and Selena’s “Como Una Flor”, our president’s personal favorite. As the Community Outreach Chair and a part of the CMU family, I welcome everyone to check out our organization and come to one of our meetings or events. For those of you wondering, the answer is no; You don’t have to be hispanic to be a part of SHPE. We welcome everyone to be a part of our SHPE family!
